Our Community Forest

Life in Our Forest

Do you love trees and want to help take care of a special forest? Our Santa Margarita School Demonstration Forest needs more volunteers. The DF is located along the H St. entrance to Santa Margarita School and has been maintained entirely by volunteers since 1997. Workdays are held on the second Saturday of each month, 9 - 11 AM. Upcoming dates are March 8 and April 12. Please bring your own garden tools (for spring weeding!) if you can. Treats and refreshments provided; rain cancels.

Where's the forest?
It's not just a wilderness getaway place, it's where we live, work and play. Healthy trees along our streets, in our backyards, parks and playgrounds are signs of a healthy community. Trees provide many benefits, including increased property values, reduced heating and cooling costs, and increased quality of life. Santa Margarita's forest is graying as many of the old elms, planted in the 1890s by the town's founders, have fallen in recent years. It's time to provide care needed to stretch benefits from old trees and to plant new trees to shade and beautify Santa Margarita for the benefit of future generations. This page reflects the spirit of "tree amigo" volunteers and offers resources and inspiration to encourage others to join in this worthwhile effort.
