The California Wildlife Conservation Board, during its May 26 meeting in Sacramento, presented a $107,618 grant award to the University of California Integrated Hardwood Range Management Program, Berkeley, in support of the Native Tree Committee (NTC) of San Luis Obispo County's proposed 'Working and Learning Among the Oaks' Program. One element of the program is the Santa Margarita School "Learning Among the Oaks" Trail to be developed on 15 acres of the historic Santa Margarita Ranch, adjacent to Santa Margarita School. The second element includes a series of tailgate meetings and a conservation evaluation system designed to encourage and support voluntary implementation of oak woodland conservation practices throughout San Luis Obispo County.
