Early Fall 2011 Highlights
Volunteers of many different stripes continue to get worthwhile projects done and have fun in Santa Margarita. A super Cal Poly WOW (Week of Welcome) group, led by Brittany Sundstrom and Scott Anderson, moved a mountain (of mulch) at the Demonstration Forest on Sept. 17. This was our second year of WOW collaboration and the DF looks beautiful now thanks to the hard work of Cal Poly students. Learning Among the Oaks team members enjoyed a fall preview hike on Sept. 15 and presented Oaks and Wildlife activities for 190 (Wow!) 4th graders at the Oct. 5 Great AgVenture in Paso Robles. Now, we're getting ready for the Oct. 19 start of the Fall '11 LATO Program for Santa Margarita School 4th-6th graders and the Oct. 22 Make a Difference Day Tree Planting in Santa Margarita. Check out the News page for details! Photos contributed by B. Gingg, V. Endres, J. Thomas and C. Sinsheimer.
* LATO is a program of the University of California Cooperative Extension, supported by the California Wildlife Conservation Board and made possible through the cooperation of Santa Margarita Ranch owners Karl Wittstrom, Doug Filipponi and Rob Rossi. The LATO Trail is located on private property of the Santa Margarita Ranch; access is restricted to approved, docent led educational hikes.
