[Leaf] Snapshots [Leaf]

Summer into Fall 2011
Thanks to all of the volunteers who've helped take care of nest box monitoring, summer watering, and other stewardship jobs along the Learning Among the Oaks Trail* and at the Santa Margarita School Demonstration Forest. Those who've pitched in to help include Jane Thomas, Kristen Reichardt, Robert Campbell, Drew Snyder, Sue Cummings, Beverly Gingg, and, most recently, a fantastic California Conservation Corps crew led by Jolina Elliott. In keeping with SMCF tradition, we've had a lot of fun getting jobs done and enjoying outdoor exercise with a purpose. Thanks also to these behind scenes summer project supporters: Andrew Von Dollen, Marguerite Costigan, Diana Barnhart, and the staff of The Land Conservancy of San Luis Obispo County.

* LATO is a program of the University of California Cooperative Extension, supported by the California Wildlife Conservation Board and made possible through the cooperation of Santa Margarita Ranch owners Karl Wittstrom, Doug Filipponi and Rob Rossi. The LATO Trail is located on private property of the Santa Margarita Ranch; access is restricted to approved, docent led educational hikes. For more information, contact Beverly Gingg, LATO Director, bgingg@smcf.org
5 atf nestlings in 10b

Kristen and Beverly spotted* these five apparently healthy ash-throated flycatcher nestlings in trail nest box 10b on June 29,2011. Jane and Beverly checked 10b on July 13 and found it full of poop but empty of nestlings. Looks like a successful fledge : ) *Quick, quiet peek to minimize disturbance.
