[Leaf] Snapshots [Leaf]

Spring 2011 Highlights

Most of our spring activities have taken place on the Learning Among the Oaks Trail and at the Carrizo Plain National Monument. Even though the Demonstration Forest hasn't received much attention lately (we need goats to handle spring weeds!), the Easter bunny did make a visit. Here are some snapshots to provide a peek into our activities. Thanks to all volunteers and donors (See About Us page for listing) who do the best they can to get community jobs done and make it fun.

Please note: Santa Margarita Community Forestry is a key partner in the University of California Cooperative Extension's Learning Among the Oak Program which is supported by grants from the California Wildlife Conservation Board. The Learning Among the Oaks trail is located on private property of the Santa Margarita Ranch; access is restricted to approved teacher-docent led hikes. Thanks to Santa Margarita Ranch owners, Santa Margarita School families and many local collaborators for making this program a success.
Learning about Rangeland Conservation

Rancher George Work (with hat, center) is shown teaching Santa Margarita School Oak Ambassadors and 4-H SLO Scientist Oak Study Group members about oak rangeland conservation on March 17. The kids really enjoyed this and learned a lot about ranch stewardship. More information about the Work Ranch can be found at workranch.com
