Many Santa Margarita homeowners with elm leaf beetle infested elms recently took advantage of opportunity to try a new ELB control product. Pointer (see
http://www.montereylawngarden.com/products/insects.html#pointer), is an imidacloprid product which has been adapted/packaged for use by homeowners. Imidacloprid is the same chemical which has previously been available only for use by licensed tree care professionals. While it might not be suitable for regular community-wide use (it is fairly expensive + not recommended for use more often than once every two years), the product attracted interest in this ELB plagued town. What kind of results will we see? Too soon to tell. Stay tuned for visual comparison of treated and untreated trees.
